Like other Panaque, it is a wood-eating species and spends much of its time grazing on driftwood and surfaces around the aquarium. This is a long-term commitment due to its eventual size and waste production, so it should be housed in a suitably large, mature aquarium. Aquarium Size For an adult L190, a large aquarium of at least 5–6 ft in length is recommended, with greater volume preferred where possible. A larger footprint provides room for the pleco to establish a territory, explore and find suitable hiding places.
