Tank size
Minimum 200 litres (55 US gallons) for one; larger for multiple fish.
Semi-aggressive. Can be territorial, especially as adults.
Tank mates
Similar-sized, robust fish such as severums, larger rainbowfish, silver dollars, or peaceful larger catfish. Avoid tiny fish and fin-nippers.
Tank setup
Fine sand or smooth gravel, caves and rocks for hiding, sturdy plants (or artificial plants), and moderate water flow.
Water care
Weekly 25–40% water changes and strong filtration are important
